Buried Bellinghistory: Guided Tours of Bayview Cemetery

A view of sections M and O in Bayview Cemtery, Bellingham Washington, showing sun-dappled gravestones and monuments beneath mature trees.

UPDATE 10-9-2022 - These tours have SOLD OUT! Don’t worry, we’ll bring them back next year. We appreciate all the interest and excitement about these tours!

Buried BellingHistory Goes Live – or perhaps Undead

We are excited to finally be able to offer public guided walking tours of Bayview Cemetery in person and on location starting at the end of August through October!

Bayview Cemetery was founded in 1887 when the town of Whatcom purchased a 10-acre plot on the outskirts of town on “the wagon road to the lake.”   On our tours we’ll discuss what came before, how the cemetery got started and how it’s grown over time.  We’ll explore the older sections of the cemetery and visit some of the most intriguing monuments.  We’ll say hello to a lot of interesting folks who were laid to eternal rest over a century ago.

Tours will last around an hour and a half and cover less than one mile in distance.  Terrain is mostly paved and level, however parts of the tours may include unpaved trails, uneven ground and slight inclines. (We will continue to offer virtual versions of this tour, feel free to contact us for dates and more information.)

Tour Content Warning:  Death (of course)

Meeting location and other details provided upon registration.

Space and dates are limited, so be sure to reserve your spots early!

Updated to add: We also have a VIRTUAL BURIED BELLINGHISTORY Cemetery Tour scheduled on Wednesday, November 16th at 7 pm

Registration is through Bellingham Parks and Recreation at this link: http://apm.activecommunities.com/bellingham/Activity_Search/36621
